Serge Seidlitz

Serge Seidlitz

An English/ German hybrid born in Kenya in 1977, Serge grew up traveling between the UK and Asia where a diet of MTV and Mad magazine fuelled his desire to become an illustrator. Serge combines elements of popular culture with these diverse influences to create a body of work that both relates back to an iconic graphic language and also explores innovative and original ideas through maps, information graphics, character design and much more.

After studying Graphic Design at Camberwell College of Arts, Serge worked as an in-house designer at The Cartoon Network before leaving to concentrate on illustration. Serge's ever evolving list of clients includes MTV, AOL, Playstation, Virgin, Estrella, ITV, Barclays, VH1, Volvic, Orange, JWT, John Brown, The Times, BBH, BBDO, Leo Burnett, Sinalco, BBC, RKCR/Y&R, First Bank, Hicklin Slade, Honda, Vodafone, Baileys, British Airways, Red Bull, Wired, Dorling Kindersly, Raiffheisen, Simon & Shuster, Elisava School of Design, Macmillan, The Guardian, GQ, and NME magazine. Serge is represented in London by Debut Art.

Q&A

What motivates you? Geeky obsessions and following visual and conceptual threads. Any wise words of advice? "You can't burn out if you're not on fire." (from the documentary When You're Strange). Good topics for party talk? I spend too much time alone in my studio and recently have become a bit obsessed with dehumidifying my flat. It's something I have to remember NOT too talk about when I do go out to parties. Favorite things to do when not creating? Recently it's driving fast on mountain roads. What would the ultimate job be? Painting a biblical mural on the interior of a Byzantium monastery on a cliff top in northern Greece.
