Hvass&Hannibal

Hvass&Hannibal is a multidisciplinary arts and design studio based in Copenhagen. Since 2006, its founders, Nan Na Hvass & Sofie Hannibal, have worked in close collaborative partnership with illustrative and conceptual design in a number of different fields for numerous clients in Europe, Asia, and the US.

The two met in high school, where they took an evening design class after school, and from then on worked together occasionally on local music-related projects. The studio was founded while Nan Na and Sofie were still full-time students at the Danish Design School, but they now work nonstop in their studio in the heart of Copenhagen. Whether in the digital realm or on a three-dimensional scale, the studio takes projects from esoteric illustrative beginnings to a full art direction and graphic design solution, all in-house. In addition to being image-makers, Hvass&Hannibal have also directed high-profile photography projects and created sets and costumes.

Q&A

What motivates you? We are motivated and inspired by many things. The internet, handicrafts, colours, other artists' work, working with our hands, children, animals, the sea and pretty food – just to name a few. Any wise words of advice? That depends on who's asking. But in general it would be recycle, be nice and eat vegetables. Good topics for party talk? Intestinal rinsing, parents' habits, New Year's resolutions and occasionally we do resort to "Do you come here often?" Favorite things to do when not creating? Drinking tea while sitting in the sun on our new bench in front of our studio. Sleeping and travelling. What would the ultimate job be? Right now we are dreaming of making a huge mural on the side of a house and a tiny illustration for a stamp.
