Q&A
What motivates you? I'm not sure I am motivated. No expectations are on me – I just have a mania for drawing. House music motivates me physically, I think as an art form it is superior to most other mediums. Robert Hood motivates me to get to work on my early morning walk. Any wise words of advice? Lay off the Photoshop filters and auto-tweening in Flash (very similar to auto-tuning). Good topics for party talk? Did you know there's a super-volcano underneath Yellow Stone National Park so powerful it is capable of sending us back to the Dark Ages, literally – a blast that would trigger a nuclear style winter? Sorry my glass is in the other room. There is a quantum theory that goes some way in answering the information paradox, a rule that says no information is destroyed. Quite a long story to tell here but the upshot is very surprising. Rather than our reality and our physical form being three-dimensional we are in fact 2-D projections from the other side of the universe, sort of like a CD of Pink Floyd in concert – like you're really there but you're not? It sounds insane but is based on plausible science. I've only come to this party because my friend dragged me along. I'm off.
Skips or Quavers? Discuss.
Did you know Demis Roussos made a satanic album called 666 with Vangelis, he also sung on the sound track to Blade Runner? Favorite things to do when not creating? Writing email complaints to nightclubs and bars with shoddy service: Dear Sir that was possibly the worst G&T I've ever been served. Forgetting the slice of lemon is like forgetting to stop driving when you alight a car. What would the ultimate job be? # Doctor, surgeon, fireman, or something useful. What or whom inspires you? I guess recently I've been drawing a lot of classical compositions featuring women. Recently I've gone back to the classics (As Liberace once said), old painting basically. I went to the Cranach (the Elder) exhibition at the National Gallery last year and that blew me away. Cranach is more contemporary than you would first assume. I've been looking at early Renaissance and Medieval art too, Bosch has got me inspired for a new piece. Comics are a key thing for my work, the manga master Tezuka. I do like illustrators like Aubrey Beardsley, who's greatly influenced my style but I tend to mix it up, I don't study illustration. I'm more a fan of French comics and manga.
